Discovered two great places today...one basically in my backyard and
one, well not so much in my backyard.
This week I decided I wanted to go to Buckhead Church in um, well, Buckhead, to see what it's like. It's part of North Point Community Church in Alpharetta and I used to go to the singles bible study at North Point on Tuesday nights called 7:22 (and yes, it was supposed to start at or around 7:22). I loved going to 7:22 so I thought I would give Buckhead Church a try. It is not close by any means, but I have yet to find what I am looking for in a church out here in the sticks or even in Gwinnett. It's hard to find your niche in a church when you're 32, single, and don't have kids. This is what I have found churches want to do with you; 1) act like you're not there and then they don't have to deal with you, 2) stick you with the over 50 singles crowd, 3) stick you with the college age or just out of college crowd, or 4) stick all the singles together. Anyways, let's just say that I have visited a multitude of churches and have yet to find one that feels like home. I have been going to one church regularly for the past year or so and while it is a good church, it's just not where I belong on a long-term basis. I never leave there feeling like I did today when I left Buckhead Church. I felt renewed, inspired, encouraged, welcomed, and most of all, wanted. Like I said, it's not close, but at the end of the day, I don't really care how far away it is...I'd travel to the moon and back each Sunday to have the type of worship experience I had today!
My other discovery was Tribble Mill Park. I have lived out here in the sticks for 5, yes, count them 1...2...3..4...5 years and had never been to Tribble Mill and it is literally just a hop, skip, and jump away. I have been going to Bay Creek Park to walk/run and just wanted to change of scenery. Tribble Mill is huge but what drew me over there was the 3.4 mile paved trail. Bay Creek's trail is 1.15 miles long and I usually go around 3-4 times...which gets boring pretty fast. The paved trail (there are also about a gazillion of unpaved trails) at Tribble Mill has a good mix of scenery...woods, road, lake, playground, bridges...it's just a good trail. I got a little confused on the trail earlier tonight because there were a couple of times where it split in 2 directions, but I think I took the right path to make it 3.4 miles. I am hoping to hit the trail again in the morning to do 2 loops for 6.8 miles....which will put me just 1.9 miles shy of hitting my Memorial Day goal of 75 miles since Easter...going to have to extend that deadline until Tuesday....I was nuts to think I could do all that at the end of school!
